Temperature is a core survival mechanic. Every region in the game has a base ambient temperature, which may change depending on time of day or weather, which is visible on the World Map. Your character also has their own body temperature, which is visible in the Codex. If your character's body temperature is cold or freezing, you will receive visual clues in the form of frost forming around the play window and a debuff on your buff bar. Ambient Temperature is influenced by: *Time of Day *Weather, especially during active Storms *General Environment, such as being indoors, outdoors, above ground, or below *Heat Sources: including burn barrels, stoves, and campfires *Region Maintenance, which improves overall climate control in structured settlements These conditions combine with a region’s base value to produce the final ambient temperature at any given time. {| class="wikitable" style="width:60%; text-align:center;" |+ style="font-size: 30px; text-align: left; background-color: #152423; color: #AFACA8; padding: 10px;"" | Temperature Chart |- ! style="background-color:#272727; color:#AFACA8; font-weight:bold;" | Description ! style="background-color:#272727; color:#AFACA8; font-weight:bold;" | Temperature Value |- | Hot || 5 or higher |- | Warm || 1 to 4 |- | Comfortable || 0 |- | Chilly || -1 |- |Cold || -2 |- | Freezing || -3 or lower |} =How Temperature Affects You= Part of survival is learning to weather the cold. Common sense will actually take you pretty far on its own: it’s colder at night, heat sources are warm, and dressing appropriately makes a big difference. But venturing out into the wasteland means you’ll inevitably find yourself exposed: Spending too much time in Chilly, Cold, or Freezing conditions introduces a risk of illness. The colder it is, the higher the risk. A brief chill won’t do much harm, but prolonged exposure can eventually make your character sick. Prolonged exposure to freezing temperatures without the proper protective gear will lead to Frostbite, Hypothermia, and Death. Warmth, on the other hand, promotes recovery, as injuries and illnesses heal more quickly when your character is Comfortable, Warm, or Hot. Staying out of the cold gives your body the best chance to recover. Your Character's Temperature is calculated by comparing the current Ambient Temperature to your total Cold Resistance.
This includes: *Equipment that provides Cold Resistance *Skill: Cold Tolerance *Temporary Effects from food, drinks, abilities, or buffs
Example: If you're in an area with an ambient temperature of -3, and you have 100 Cold Tolerance skill (granting +10 Cold Resistance) and have a total of +30 Cold Resistance from gear, your total Cold Resistance would be 40. For every 10 points of Cold Resistance, 1 level is added to your character's internal temperature.

(40 Cold Resistance ÷ 10) - 3 Ambient Temperature = 1

Your character temperature would be 1, or Warm. ------ Return to Main Page
