Many systems in Icebound allow for longform writing. To help bring your writing to life, we support basic HTML formatting within these entries. This lets you structure your text with headings, paragraphs, and other simple elements to improve readability and make the most of the available space:

Books

Books can be created using the Printing skill. Each individual page of a book can hold roughly 250 words, or 1,700 characters, including spaces. Text that exceeds this limit will be cut off, so be mindful of length when formatting your entries.

To write in a book, context-click it and select "Write" from the menu. This will open the editor, where you can freely add or edit text.

If the book is unsealed, you can write across multiple pages using the arrow buttons to navigate. Text does not carry over between pages, so be mindful of formatting and pacing. Use the Preview button to see how your entry will appear when read in-game, including any HTML formatting you’ve applied.

Once you're satisfied, click "Complete" to seal the book. Sealing locks the contents and prevents others from making changes. Only the original author can unseal and edit it.

If you are the author and need to make changes later, simply context-click the book again and choose "Unseal Book" to return it to editing mode.

Paper & Stationary

Paper is created using the Printing skill. It can appear as a clean sheet of paper or a crumpled piece of reclaimed paper, depending on how it was made. This will affect the visual appearance of the note in-game, but not its function.

Paper serves as a single-page medium for characters to write notes, letters, flyers, or other short messages. It uses the same writing interface as books, but is limited to just one page, and can display roughly 250 words, or 1,700 characters, including spaces. Text that exceeds this limit will be cut off, so be mindful of length when formatting your entries.
