“Commerce is a great civilizer. Every exchange of merchandise is an exchange of ideas.”

– Michel Chevalier, Le Libre-Échange, 1848

Mercantilism is the skill of the merchant, trader, and business mind. The denizens of the world recognizes you as someone who can keep the books balanced, the shelves stocked, and the wheels of commerce turning. This skill reflects your ability to manage goods, people, and coin, and to speak the language of trade.

As your skill grows, so do the privileges that come with a merchant’s reputation:

  • Public Market: List and manage more goods at once.
  • Commercial Properties: Operate shops, warehouses, and other holdings.
  • Employees: Hire, organize, and direct staff.
  • Trade Language: Speak and understand “Back Slang,” the coded speech of merchants, one of the three Skill Languages.

Public Market[edit]

Your Mercantilism skill determines how many active listings you can have on the Public Market at any given time. The higher your skill, the more goods you can list for sale.

You may manage a number of listings equal to your skill level or 10 - whichever is greater.

  • At 0% Mercantilism, you can have 10 items listed on the Public Market.
  • At 100%, you can have 100 items listed on the Public Market.
