While referred to as Sanity for the sake of familiarity with genre conventions, the system functions more akin to stress and mental trauma. It reflects your character’s psychological stability in the face of horror, hardship, and suffering.
Sanity loss occurs under the following conditions:
- Committing murder against other humans (NPC, or PC, we don't differentiate)
- Performing unsettling actions such as mutilating a corpse, or disrupting a burial site
- Prolonged exposure to disturbing environments
- Enduring extreme or extended physical pain
- Sustaining certain injuries, such as hypothermia
As Sanity diminishes, your character becomes increasingly vulnerable to psychological symptoms—paranoia, hallucinations, compulsions, or episodes of emotional collapse. The lower your Sanity, the greater the chance of manifesting one or more of these conditions.
